Consul General Zheng Xiyuan Meets with the Lord Mayor of York


On Sept. 18, 2018, Mr. Zheng Xiyuan, Consul General of the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Manchester, met at his residence Mr. Keith Orrell, the Lord Mayor of York, and his wife, the Lady Mayoress, Mrs. Judith Orrell. Also present at the meeting were Consul Lyu Xiaomei, Consul Liu Min, York City Councillor Mr. Ashley Mason, Zhuang Wei and Zhuang Yaqing, Chinese community leaders of York.

Mr. Orrell briefed Mr. Zheng of the city's history and exchange with related Chinese provinces and cities. He focused on the efforts and measures taken by local service industries to explore the Chinese market. He stated that the city government is devoted to promoting exchange with China, and he hoped that, with the support of the Consulate-
General, York will extend and deepen its exchange and collaboration with Chinese cities.  

Mr. Zheng expressed his appreciation of the cooperation platform built under the joint efforts of the York city government and overseas Chinese representatives based in York. He outlined the historical origin of the concept of China's peaceful development and China's economic development trend. He also expounded the four concepts of One Belt One Road Initiative, i.e. peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit. He pledged that the Consulate-General will further support the exchange and cooperation between York and China's related provinces and cities.
