|Consul General Zheng Xiyuan Meets with Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police|
On 7th January 2019, Consul General Zheng Xiyuan received at his residence Mr. And Mrs. Ian Hopkins, Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police as well as Mr. and Mrs. Ian Pilling, Deputy Chief Constable, accompanied by Deputy Consul General Fan Yingjie and Education Counsellor Zhao Jiang.
Consul General Zheng thanked the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) for their long-term strong support for the work of the Consulate and expressed high appreciation for the high level of attention continuously paid by GMP to the safety of Chinese expatriates, overseas Chinese students and tourists despite a serious shortage of police in recent years. He looked forward to establishing a joint working mechanism with the police to explore ways to promote local police exchanges between China and the UK.
Chief Constable Hopkins and Deputy Chief Constable responded positively to Consul General Zheng's proposal and expressed willingness to cooperate with the Consulate to actively discuss how to practically strengthen security measures for Chinese expatriates, overseas Chinese students and tourists. They hoped to expand cooperation and exchanges with China with the Consulate's assistance and encourage local Chinese youngsters to take an active part in joining the police.
