|The Chinese Consulate General in Manchester Holds "Spring in Manchester" Chinese New Year's Concert And Spring Festival Reception|
On 23rd January 2019, the Chinese Consulate General in Manchester held "Spring in Manchester" Chinese New Year's Concert and Spring Festival Reception at Chetham's School of Music. Her Majesty's Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Lord Mayor of Manchester, High Sheriff of Greater Manchester and 350 representatives from industrial and commercial circles, overseas Chinese and Chinese academic circles as well as Chinese enterprises gathered together to celebrate the Spring Festival.
Mr. Griffiths, Her Majesty's Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Cllr Hitchen, Lord mayor of Manchester, Mr. Rhys Whalley, Executive Director of Manchester China Forum and Ms. Ren Jieyi, Chair of Joint Council of Chinese Organisations Northwest addressed the audience respectively and extended their spring greetings to local Chinese communities and Chinese people. They expressed that the friendship between Greater Manchester and China went back a long way and it was delightful to see local cooperation with China developing vigorously. They called on all ethical groups to strengthen dialogue, enhance unity and seize together opportunities brought about by China's widened opening up.
The preparatory group for the Chinese garden in the RHS Garden Bridgewater project in Greater Manchester briefed the local Chinese community on the project progress and called on the community to actively participate in the project construction.
The Chinese and British classics performed by staff and students from the famous British Chetham's School of Music and the visiting Guangzhou Yi Zhong Ren Art Troupe won applause from the audience. The event climaxed when consular staff and local Chinese communities jointly sang Edelweiss and Jasmin.
Videos of Wild China and 40 Years of Reform and Opening Up Photography Exhibition were looped at the site. Consul General Zheng accompanied guests and visited the Chinese culture exhibition zone, watched live performance including Chinese calligraphy, zither and tea ceremony, tasted Chinese delicacies and personally wrote the character "Fu" (good luck) as gifts for guests.
