On 16th April 2019, Consul General Zheng Xiyuan travelled to Derby to meet with Derby City Council Leader Chris Poulter. Consul Lyu Xiaomei accompanied him.
Councillor Poulter gave a briefing on Derby's recent plans for cooperation and exchange with China, with a special mention of his planned visit to Hefei city of Anhui Province and neighboring areas. He said that Derby, as a leading British transport facility manufacturing centre, houses global enterprises including Rolls-Royce, Bombardier and Toyota. Currently, the upgrading and transforming of British railway infrastructure has brought great opportunities for local development. Derby hopes to continuously expand exchange with China through sister city cooperation to achieve breakthrough in electric vehicles and electrical cable manufacturing as well as education collaboration, tourism and other fields as soon as possible, and it hopes to receive strong support from the Consulate General.
Consul General Zheng said that through his two visits to Derby, he had been deeply impressed with it being a successful model of combining university education with local development and employment needs and hoped that Derby would introduce its advanced experience to China. The Consulate General is willing to build a bridge for cooperation between Derby and China and provide as much assistance as its capacity allows.
