China, Russia issue joint statement

    MOSCOW, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin Monday issued a joint statement, pledging to further promote the Sino-Russian strategic partnership of cooperation.

    The statement said that to further advance the strategic partnership of cooperation accords with the supreme interests of the two countries and is conducive to safeguarding peace and stability of the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large.

    In the statement, the two sides vowed to boost cooperation in trade, investment, energy and other sectors.

    The document also outlined the two countries' concerted attitudes and stances on some major international issues.

    President Hu arrived here earlier Monday for a three-day state visit, during which he will meet other Russian leaders and attend activities marking the "Year of China."
