The Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Manchester was established in 1986, with the consular district comprising the counties of Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Tyne and Wear, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Durham and Derbyshire. The responsibilities of the Consulate General consist of promoting the friendly exchanges between the Chinese people and the British people, furthering the development of bilateral relations in various areas, including politics, economy and trade, science, education, culture, and twinning cities, issuing passports and visas, dealing with the notarization and legalization of documents, providing consular protection to Chinese nationals, and safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests in the consular district.
