Consul General Zheng Xiyuan Met with Lord Mayor of Manchester Abid Chohan

On March 13th 2020, Consul General Zheng Xiyuan met with Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Abid Latif Chohan. at the consulate general in Manchester. The meeting was also attended by Vice Consul General Fan Yingjie, Consul Li Fanghui and Consul Lyu Xiaomei.

 
Consul General Zheng Xiyuan thanked the Lord Mayor for his support for Manchester’s sister city Wuhan when it was hit by the outbreak of covid-19 and his concern for the local Chinese community and Chinese students when China was fighting against the epidemic. He also expressed his concern and sympathy over the current situation in Manchester. He said the recent outbreak of covid-19 proved a real test of friendship. Manchester and Wuhan had been working hand in hand to overcome all hardships. The friendship between the sister cities had been strengthened and consolidated once again through facing up to the challenges brought by the outbreak together, which bore full evidence to the significance of building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Lord Mayor Chohan informed Consul General Zheng of local epidemic situation as well as the prevention and control measures taken. Besides, he reaffirmed his support for Chinese community and Chinese students, proposed a platform to promote solidarity between local Chinese community and other ethnic groups like the Pakistani community, and encouraged local Chinese to take a more active part in local politics.

Consul General Zheng also briefed Mayor Chohan on Chinese policies regarding ethnic minorities and explained China’s firm stance against cults and terrorism.
