Embassy Spokesperson on the China-related contents in the House of Commons Defence Committee’s report
2023-10-27 01:12

Question: Recently, the House of Commons Defence Committee released a report "UK Defence and the Indo-Pacific". The China-related contents in the report hype up the "China threat" and advocate that the UK should pursue closer cooperation with allies to prepare for a range of actions by China against Taiwan. What is your comment?

Embassy Spokesperson: The above-mentioned report of the UK Parliament makes groundless accusations against China, spreads the "China threat" theory, and clamours for colluded efforts to contain China. We firmly oppose and strongly condemn this.

China is committed to the path of peaceful development and pursues a defence policy that is defensive in nature. China has always been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international order. The relevant UK politicians will never succeed in their attempts to discredit China by publishing such reports. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The Taiwan question is purely China's internal affairs and brooks no external interference. No one should underestimate the Chinese people's staunch resolve, firm will and strong ability to defend our national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

We urge the relevant UK politicians to abandon the outdated Cold War mentality, stop anti-China clamours, stop interfering in China's internal affairs, and stop undermining China-UK relations.
