Q: Can you give us more details on China’s assistance to Chile after the earthquake?
A: China expressed sympathies to Chile over the earthquake. President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolence to Chilean President Michelle Bachelet. The Red Cross Society of China offered 30,000 dollars in cash to Chile’s red cross association as emergency assistance.
According to a leading official of the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry is now working on a plan to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to Chile and will take part in Chile’s reconstruction work based on its needs and help people there rebuild their homeland.
Q: Earlier this year, a Chinese scholar was deported by the Norwegian side for the sake of national security. But a municipal court in Norway recently ruled the decision invalid. What is your comment on this ruling?
A: We have noted the relevant report. China always calls for all countries to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of overseas Chinese citizens.
Q: Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said that China should stop proceeding the construction on South China Sea islands and reefs. How does China comment on this?
A: The situation in the South China Sea remains generally stable. China is resolving relevant disputes through bilateral negotiation with countries directly concerned and maintaining peace and stability of the South China Sea together with ASEAN countries. We hope that the Australian side would honor its commitment of not taking sides on issues concerning sovereignty disputes, respect efforts by China and ASEAN countries and take concrete actions to uphold regional peace and stability.
