Q: The Japanese side reportedly suggested that the China-Japan-ROK summit be held in December. Given the uncertainties within the ROK, the summit may not take place as scheduled. What is your comment on that?
A: Attaching great importance to the trilateral cooperation, the Chinese side is willing to work alongside Japan and the ROK to ensure that the cooperation will pick up and maintain sound, steady and sustainable growth.
The summit should be held when the timing and conditions are proper for all three parties, and should lead to due and positive results. The three sides are communicating on issues concerning the summit.
Q: According to the Ministry of Public Security, the Chinese police brought back 74 telecoms fraud suspects from Malaysia on November 29, 21 Taiwanese suspects included. Does the Foreign Ministry have any comment on that?
A: The Chinese side highly commends and thanks the Malaysian side for its adherence to the one China policy and collaboration with China in combatting cross-border crimes, such as telecoms fraud. Competent Chinese authorities will deal with those suspects in accordance with the law. It will help ascertain the facts, recover the ill-gotten money, punish the wrongdoing and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the victims. We believe it will be understood and supported by compartriots from both sides of the Taiwan Straits and the international community.
Q: Can you tell us more about the speech made by Vice President Li Yuanchao at the funeral of Fidel Castro and his agenda in Cuba?
A: As I said yesterday, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice President Li Yuanchao is in Cuba for memorial services as the special envoy of General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President Xi Jinping. We will release information about his activities in due course.
Q: It is reported that a plane carrying a Brazilian soccer team crashed en route from Bolivia to Colombia. There were 71 fatalities and 6 injured survivors. What is China's comment on that? Were there Chinese citizens on board?
A: President Xi Jinping has sent messages of condolences to Brazilian President Michel Temer and Bolivian President Evo Morales respectively.
For the tragic crash that led to great casualties, we want to express our deep sympathy and sincere condolences. We mourn the loss of life and wish those injured a speedy recovery. According to what we have learnt, there were no Chinese citizens on board.
